President Biden on Thursday night at a CNN town hall in Baltimore made news as he discussed the future of the Senate filibuster, and the fate of his “Build Back Better” economic initiative. Biden has been forced to shed some progressive items in the bill to win the support of key moderates in the Senate, while at the same time trying to keep progressives on board. Key provision he has had to jettison include the long-promised tax increases on corporations and wealthy individuals. One person blocking increased taxes is Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who has emerged as a key player in the negotiations. In Virginia, the race is getting tighter, with education emerging as a key issue. Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe continues to lead in the RealClear Average of Polls, but newcomer Glenn Youngkin is surprising a lot of people. Some think he may be showing a way forward for the GOP in a post-Trumpcentric universe. RealClearPolitics president and co-founder Tom Bevan, Washington bureau chief Carl Cannon, and associate editor and columnist A.B. Stoddard join Andrew Walworth for today’s RealClearPolitics Takeaway podcast.
