S2 E14 Who Killed Mary Tanner?

Serenity, a resident of the Black Hills Children's Home (BHCH), a treatment center for children with emotional and behavioral problems, was last seen on February 3, 2019, at 10:45 a.m. while playing in the gym with three other children. Two staff members were present, and when one child ran out of the gym, one staff member followed. Unfortunately, Serenity also ran out of the gym, and the remaining staff member stayed behind to watch the other children. The last known sighting of Serenity was at 11:00 a.m. when she was seen walking northbound on south Rockerville Road near the home. Despite the freezing temperatures, she was not wearing a coat. Serenity has not been heard from since. Serenity had a tumultuous early childhood, moving through multiple foster homes after being removed from her biological parents' care as a toddler. Both of her birth parents are currently incarcerated. Chad and KaSandra Dennard then took over her care in May of that year. On a cold January night Erik Foote of Washburn, Maine is picked up by police officer Chandler Cole after suffering a mental health episode dressed in only jeans in a t-shirt. According to the family, officer Cole says he dropped Erik off at a hospital. When family reaches out to the hospital they have no record of Erik being there. When questioned again, officer Cole says he "dropped him off at Freshies" a local gas station and sandwich shop. Why would an officer pick up someone in distress, drop him off at a gas station with no coat, no money and no phone? Jared Michael McColloch left his home in Marion, Louisiana to visit his family in Salem, Illinois and has not been seen or heard from since. His vehicle was found in Vincennes, Indiana on November 6, 2023 in a remote area immediately over the Indiana/Illinois border close to the Wabash River. Tonight we are joined by Joe Chapentier, an investigative reporter for the Sun Journal newspaper and author of an article that raised questions and brought the disappearance of Celeste Doghmi into the public eye. Police are investigating the disappearance of 29-year-old Celeste Doghmi, who was last seen in the Auburn, Maine area at the end of July 2021. Doghmi is a German citizen and her family, who is living out of the country, have not been able to contact her since July 2021, according to a statement issued by police. Tonight we are joined by Bradley Williams an advocate for the truth in the disappearance of Jeremy Alex, missing from Rockport, Maine April 24th, 2004. At about 11 p.m. on April 24, Jeremy visited his girlfriend, who said he seemed erratic and stressed. At about 5 p.m., Jeremy appeared in the backyard of one of his former high school teachers and told her that someone was coming after him. She went to call the police, at which point he ran away. The next day, his van was found abandoned with his phone and keys inside. He was addicted to drugs, so he may have been hallucinating. In 2008, a couple were found to be in possession of Jeremy's driving license. Tonight we are joined by Jennifer Santanello, the mother of Layla Santanello who was last seen June 27th, 2023. Based on witness statements Layla spent the night of 6/25/2023 at the Americourt motel in Kingsport, TN. On 6/26/2023 Layla was observed going door to door at the motel wearing a white tank top, black leggings, and no shoes. Layla then ran into a nearby tree line and was observed on 6/27/2023 between the hours of 08:00-10:00 in a near-by field. At 12:00 Layla was inside a local ice cream shop located a 2003 N. Eastman Road. Layla spoke with an employee and stated she was going to a nearby store to buy shoes. Attiin Shaw disappeared September 8th 2021 from the small town of Washburn in Maine. Attiin wasn't reported missing until late November after her family began asking her husband where Attiin was. Born in Biak in Papua, Indonesia; Attiin met and married her husband American Micheal Shaw. Micheal has told the children and others that Attiin left to work on a cruise ship, he told the police she left the country to return home (though her passport has not been used) and told her family she just left. Joined by the president of the Elan School Survivors, Mark Babitz, we look into the dark history of a Maine reformatory school. The facility was closed down on April 1, 2011, due to reports of abuse, many from former students, dating back to its opening in 1970. Throughout its history, the school was faced with numerous allegations of student maltreatment. In 2001, Details magazine cited Élan as "among the most controversial of the nation's residential therapeutic communities." In 1975, Illinois state officials removed eleven children from the Élan program, alleging mistreatment. In the late-1970s, Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Max Ashburn visited the school after repeatedly hearing rumors of abuse, but the staff did not allow him entry into the school past the lobby.
