Welcome to Bikin' Bits - a bit about bikin' - so you don't have to look forever to find the trails you want to ride. Where we tell you the loops to ride, the loopdy-loops to ride, the uphills, the downhills.

Where we summarize the trails, so you know exactly where you want to go, how long you want to spend, how much elevation you want to gain and how much descent you want to fly down. And of course there'll be a brewery recommendation at the end.

With several options to choose from in Flathead Valley in Montana, some of the best biking in the Valley is near Whitefish. A tiny little tourist town of about 4,000 people in NW Montana, it's snuggled right up against Whitefish Mountain for skiing and riding.

The Whitefish Trail system is well maintained and so much fun! With the actual Whitefish Bike Park at the mountain, a bike resort, Spencer Mountain, and Haskill Basin to choose from, you really can't go wrong. But since you're looking to us for advice on where to ride, for this Bikin' Bits, we chose Reservoir Trailhead at Haskill Basin, which leads you straight to more trails at Whitefish Mountain, so you could get the best of both worlds. Plus, it's less than five miles to the beer!

Here's the Ride!

Starting at the trailhead, there's only one way to go - Reservoir, which is a 5 mile out and back trail (or you can choose a few loops from within the basin), for a total of 10 miles and somewhere between 1500 to 2000 feet of elevation gain. What goes up, must come down. And while that up will really make you earn your beers, that down is AWESOME and worth every minute of the up.

Here's the Beer!

Where to drink the beer after biking in Whitefish? Bonsai, baby! Bonsai Brewing Project, that is. Just off the main drag in Whitefish proper, this is one of the most creative breweries in Montana. And they're damn good at the beer, the food, and the ambiance. Don't miss Bonsai!

All the people who maintain the trails in Whitefish and the Flathead Valley. You rock. These are some of the coolest trails in the country. And to Jill and August for allowing us to put you guys on the spot. They had no idea we were going to record, and they just went with it!
