August 1st is Emancipation Day for folks around the world who celebrate the Emancipation Proclamation of 1834 that banned slavery in the British colonies. Dr. Deirdre McCorkindale joins us to explain  how was freedom celebrated in Canada amongst escaped American slaves and what it means to be truly "free" of slavery post-proclamation.
