The Pittsburgh Penguins kicked off their 2021-22 campaign with a resounding victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Tampa Bay Lightning. While missing key offensive cogs such as Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Evgeni Malkin, Mike Sullivan and his band of flightless birds played a thorough and systematic game to down their opponents. A 6-2 win in game one of 82 is a good start, but it is important to take everything one step at a time. Don’t plan the parade route just yet. On this week’s PensBurgh Podcast, Robbie and I take a look at the Penguins’ season opener, the players who surprised us, and hypothesize if the team can play this style of hockey over a longer period of time, with or without Crosby and Malkin. The listener mailbag sees us answer questions regarding Brian Boyle’s future as a Penguin, ESPN’s first hockey broadcast since 2004, plus much more. Enjoy this week’s episode and, as always, thank you for listening! Don’t forget to support us by rating and subscribing to the podcast on iTunes, Spotify, and Google Play.
