23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants.Ideo assimilatum est regnum caelorum homini regi, qui voluit rationem ponere cum servis suis. 24 And when he had begun to take the account, one was brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents.Et cum coepisset rationem ponere, oblatus est ei unus, qui debebat ei decem millia talenta. 25 And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made.Cum autem non haberet unde redderet, jussit eum dominus ejus venundari, et uxorem ejus, et filios, et omnia quae habebat, et reddi. 26 But that servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.Procidens autem servus ille, orabat eum, dicens : Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi. 27 And the lord of that servant being moved with pity, let him go and forgave him the debt.Misertus autem dominus servi illius, dimisit eum, et debitum dimisit ei. 28 But when that servant was gone out, he found one of his fellow servants that owed him an hundred pence: and laying hold of him, throttled him, saying: Pay what thou owest.Egressus autem servus ille invenit unum de conservis suis, qui debebat ei centum denarios : et tenens suffocavit eum, dicens : Redde quod debes. 29 And his fellow servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.Et procidens conservus ejus, rogabat eum, dicens : Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he paid the debt.Ille autem noluit : sed abiit, et misit eum in carcerem donec redderet debitum. 31 Now his fellow servants seeing what was done, were very much grieved, and they came and told their lord all that was done.Videntes autem conservi ejus quae fiebant, contristati sunt valde : et venerunt, et narraverunt domino suo omnia quae facta fuerant. 32 Then his lord called him; and said to him: Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all the debt, because thou besoughtest me:Tunc vocavit illum dominus suus : et ait illi : Serve nequam, omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me : 33 Shouldst not thou then have had compassion also on thy fellow servant, even as I had compassion on thee?nonne ergo oportuit et te misereri conservi tui, sicut et ego tui misertus sum? 34 And his lord being angry, delivered him to the torturers until he paid all the debt.Et iratus dominus ejus tradidit eum tortoribus, quoadusque redderet universum debitum. 35 So also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.Sic et Pater meus caelestis faciet vobis, si non remiseritis unusquisque fratri suo de cordibus vestris.

 1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set down, his disciples came unto him.Videns autem Jesus turbas, ascendit in montem, et cum sedisset, accesserunt ad eum discipuli ejus, 2 And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:et aperiens os suum docebat eos dicens : 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Beati pauperes spiritu : quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum. 4 Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land.Beati mites : quoniam ipsi possidebunt terram. 5 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.Beati qui lugent : quoniam ipsi consolabuntur. 6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.Beati qui esuriunt et sitiunt justitiam : quoniam ipsi saturabuntur. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.Beati misericordes : quoniam ipsi misericordiam consequentur. 8 Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.Beati mundo corde : quoniam ipsi Deum videbunt. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God.Beati pacifici : quoniam filii Dei vocabuntur. 10 Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Beati qui persecutionem patiuntur propter justitiam : quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum. 11 Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake:Beati estis cum maledixerint vobis, et persecuti vos fuerint, et dixerint omne malum adversum vos mentientes, propter me : 12 Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.gaudete, et exsultate, quoniam merces vestra copiosa est in caelis. Sic enim persecuti sunt prophetas, qui fuerunt ante vos.We can pay no greater honor to the Saints than by offering up to God in their name the Blood of Jesus. The efficacy of their past merits and present prayers is greatly increased when offered to God in close association with the merits and prayers of our Lord. Therefore the Church commemorates on this day all the Saints in heaven without exception , and thus honors also those who are unknown and who have no public recognition in the Liturgy.

33 Pilate therefore went into the hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him: Art thou the king of the Jews?Introivit ergo iterum in praetorium Pilatus : et vocavit Jesum, et dixit ei : Tu es rex Judaeorum? 34 Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or have others told it thee of me?Respondit Jesus : A temetipso hoc dicis, an alii dixerunt tibi de me? 35 Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?Respondit Pilatus : Numquid ego Judaeus sum? gens tua et pontifices tradiderunt te mihi : quid fecisti? 36 Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence.Respondit Jesus : Regnum meum non est de hoc mundo. Si ex hoc mundo esset regnum meum, ministri mei utique decertarent ut non traderer Judaeis : nunc autem regnum meum non est hinc. 37 Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then?  17 These things I command you, that you love one another.Haec mando vobis : ut diligatis invicem. 18 If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you.Si mundus vos odit, scitote quia me priorem vobis odio habuit. 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.Si de mundo fuissetis, mundus quod suum erat diligeret : quia vero de mundo non estis, sed ego elegi vos de mundo, propterea odit vos mundus. 20 Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.Mementote sermonis mei, quem ego dixi vobis : non est servus major domino suo. Si me persecuti sunt, et vos persequentur; si sermonem meum servaverunt, et vestrum servabunt. 21 But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake: because they know not him who sent me.Sed haec omnia facient vobis propter nomen meum : quia nesciunt eum qui misit me. 22 If I had not come, and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.Si non venissem, et locutus fuissem eis, peccatum non haberent : nunc autem excusationem non habent de peccato suo. 23 He that hateth me, hateth my Father also.Qui me odit, et Patrem meum odit. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.Si opera non fecissem in eis quae nemo alius fecit, peccatum non haberent : nunc autem et viderunt, et oderunt et me, et Patrem meum. 25 But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: They hated me without cause.Sed ut adimpleatur sermo, qui in lege eorum scriptus est : Quia odio habuerunt me gratis.The holy Apostles Simon, a Cananean, called Zelotes (the Zealot) and Jude Thaddeus, a brother of St James the Less, a cousin to Jesus, called Lebbeus (the Courageous), preached the Gospel, the first in Egypt, the second in Mesopotamia. They both suffered martyrdom in Persia in the fist century. St Jude wrote a short Epistle in which he exhorts the faithful to beware heretics.

27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck.Factum est autem, cum haec diceret : extollens vocem quaedam mulier de turba dixit illi : Beatus venter qui te portavit, et ubera quae suxisti. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.At ille dixit : Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei et custodiunt illud.

1 After these things was a festival day of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.Post haec erat dies festus Judaeorum, et ascendit Jesus Jerosolymam. 2 Now there is at Jerusalem a pond, called Probatica, which in Hebrew is named Bethsaida, having five porches.Est autem Jerosolymis probatica piscina, quae cognominatur hebraice Bethsaida, quinque porticus habens. 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick, of blind, of lame, of withered; waiting for the moving of the water.In his jacebat multitudo magna languentium, caecorum, claudorum, aridorum, exspectantium aquae motum. 4 And an angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water, was made whole, of whatsoever infirmity he lay under.Angelus autem Domini descendebat secundum tempus in piscinam, et movebatur aqua. Et qui prior descendisset in piscinam post motionem aquae, sanus fiebat a quacumque detinebatur infirmitate.Benedict XV extended to the Universal Church the Feast of the holy Archangel St Raphael, who is known to us from the inspired words of the book of Tobias as the angelical physician of soul and body.From the Book of Tobias, 12, 7-15 7 For it is good to hide the secret of a king: but honourable to reveal and confess the works of God.Etenim sacramentum regis abscondere bonum est : opera autem Dei revelare et confiteri honorificum est. 8 Prayer is good with fasting and alms more than to lay up treasures of gold:Bona est oratio cum jejunio, et eleemosyna magis quam thesauros auri recondere : 9 For alms delivereth from death, and the same is that which purgeth away sins, and maketh to find mercy and life everlasting.quoniam eleemosyna a morte liberat, et ipsa est, quae purgat peccata, et facit invenire misericordiam et viam aeternam. 10 But they that commit sin and iniquity, are enemies to their own soul.Qui autem faciunt peccatum, et iniquitatem, hostes sunt animae suae. 11 I discover then the truth unto you, and I will not hide the secret from you.Manifesto ergo vobis veritatem, et non abscondam a vobis occultum sermonem. 12 When thou didst pray with tears, and didst bury the dead, and didst leave thy dinner, and hide the dead by day in thy house, and bury them by night, I offered thy prayer to the Lord.Quando orabas cum lacrimis, et sepeliebas mortuos, et derelinquebas prandium tuum, et mortuos abscondebas per diem in domo tua, et nocte sepeliebas eos, ego obtuli orationem tuam Domino. 13 And because thou wast acceptable to God, it was necessary that temptation should prove thee.Et quia acceptus eras Deo, necesse fuit ut tentatio probaret te. 14 And now the Lord hath sent me to heal thee, and to deliver Sara thy son's wife from the devil.Et nunc misit me Dominus ut curarem te, et Saram uxorem filii tui a daemonio liberarem. 15 For I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord.Ego enim sum Raphael angelus, unus ex septem, qui adstamus ante Dominum.Tobias 8.3Then the angel Raphael took the devil, and bound him in the desert of upper Egypt.Tunc Raphael angelus apprehendit daemonium, et religavit illud in deserto superioris Aegypti.
