This week on the podcast we welcome Nubya who was born in Basel, Switzerland, her mother is Swiss and her father Nigerian. Nubya went to New York to study Jazz music at the New School for Social Research. When she returned from New York she started studying Economics and was singing in four Bands during that time. Nubya had recorded the first 5 songs of her debut album, and one day got a call from the biggest concert agency in Switzerland. They were looking for an opening act for Whitney Houston's concert that was going to take place the following day in the Zurich Hallenstadion. Nubya immediately said yes..... and was standing in front of 12'000 people one day later, opening up for Whitney. All wasn't plain sailing when the technology went on strike, the young singer's half-playback performance threatens to fail. Nubya sings a capella, the audience is enthusiastic and even Whitney Houston pays her respect. Now the Basel woman is suddenly in the spotlight. This led to record companies calling the next day, wanting to sign Nubya.

Nubya then got a record deal and a few months later got a job as a TV host for a primetime show on National TV. Follow this Nubya was then signed by Sony BMG Germany. At this time she was living in Germany and touring the country with her own band and with other projects, such as Night of the Proms, touring with Roger Daltrey, Manfred Mann & Chris Thompson, John Miles, and the Safri Duo). Nubya then decided to do her next album as a self-release, under her own label with resources of her own and it was the best decision that she could have made, she started writing songs and raised the finances to bring her vision to life, and out came Nubya’s most personal album. Nubya's new song “Rebel” was released on March 26th, 2021. The song is the first single off her new album, which will be released in January 2022, and will be produced by Alan Glass and Yannic Fonderie.
