Pastor Brent Roam and entrepreneur John Kiehl are helping St. Louis families achieve their dream of owning their own homes. Working hard to close the housing inequality gap, their goal is to ultimately eliminate race as a factor in homeownership. Although the Fair Housing Act of 1968 officially ended legal housing discrimination, much of the damage had already been done, placing black communities at a huge disadvantage. Pockets of deep poverty were created, and the consequences of these policies continue to impact millions of African Americans to this day.

Brent and John came up with a solid plan to help black families achieve personal and generational wealth that can easily be repeated across the country. They share their successes and why they feel so strongly about their mission. Their organization, FAM, stands for “fair access to mortgage”, but also reminds the people they work with that they’re going to be like family to them throughout the entire process.
