“You should just leave.” If you’re thinking about an abusive relationship this seems like sound advice, right? If you have ever been in or known someone in an abusive relationship, whether it was physical, verbal or mental/emotional abuse, the natural inclination is to encourage someone to just get out as a show of support, but it isn’t always that simple. In today’s episode, we’re tackling the heavy topic of abusive relationships and how to truly support someone living in one. I encourage each of us to challenge the way we approach these situations and I discuss why changing our mindsets around them can really equip us to help someone or ourselves. While I hope you are never close to a situation like this, tune-in for some food for thought on how to be a better ally to yourself or to someone else.

Highlights

  • Challenging the thought that staying in an abusive relationship makes one weak
  • Summary of a study on women about how they would behave if sexually harrassed
  • The psychological warfare behind abusive relationships and why people stay
  • Changing our thoughts to better help someone out of an abusive relationship
