Homeschooling and Mindfulness

Isabelle Robledo is a 17-year-old kids mindfulness coach and co founder of Making Mindfulness Fun. She is helping kids and teens to be confident and creative using mindfulness. She's been living in an RV for the past six years while traveling the world with her family of seven. She learned mindfulness from a very young age, and believes that now, more than ever, it is important to share what she’s learned with our future generation. You can find her on Instagram @keepitmindful.kids, or see her website, makingmindfulnessfun.com

I love speaking with young people that homeschool or have grown up homeschooled. Their perspective on life is often different from the norm. It gives great insight to the common questions that we received about kids that homeschool.

How do homeschoolers "turn out" in life?

Will they learn what they need to be successful?

Are homeschoolers socially awkward?

Does it make you socially awkward to live a life pursuing your dreams from a young age? Or to travel in an RV full-time with your family? What if homeschooling provides you with the space to become an entrepreneur with vision from the age of 16?

In This Episode

I recently had the chance to interview a homeschooler with vision, Isabelle Robledo. Isabelle has always been homeschooled. When Isabelle was 10, her family decided to realign their life to one that held greater purpose. They wanted to live with more fulfillment and adventure. With dedication to intention. So they took their life on the road. Literally. They sold what they didn't need, bought an RV and began roadschooling and worldschooling.

In this episode Isabelle and I talk about their life of adventure, what it means to their family and what it looked like for them over the last 6 years. Isabelle shares with me how she dealt with the transition and the perspective shift she had. We also talk about what has been the main guiding foundation for Isabelle~mindfulness.

Mindfulness was the main thing I learned through my travels

Living a different lifestyle from many of her peers, Isabelle did have times when she felt a bit on the outer edge. But it was mindfulness that helped her understand herself. It gave her the tools to realize what she was looking for when she struggled, it helped her to learn who she is and what she has to offer the world. Not only that, mindfulness has been a family journey and a way for her entire family to stay connected and continue living with intention.

Making Mindfulness Fun

Isabelle has taken her mindfulness practice further through entrepreneurship and service to the larger community. During the pandemic, she saw how much the world, especially young people were struggling and disconnected. Encouraged by her mom, Isabelle created a mindfulness course for kids. She wants to support young people in incorporating mindfulness into their lives in a playful way. As a young person that values play and creativity, she actively engages the young people she works with to do the same. Through dance parties, creative practices and fun she brings her playful attitude to the practice of mindfulness. I think that is exactly what we all need a little more of right now, don't you?
